For your convenience, all of our tours are graded on their level of difficulty. To ensure you have a comfortable ride and an enjoyable experience, we provide a guideline of the level of fitness required, type of terrain encountered and the daily distances covered.
Easy
These are leisurely paced tours involving easy cycling over fairly flat terrain. Our routes travel over gravel roads, jeep tracks and well defined paths with only minor hills along the way. There are also many beach rides in this category where you ride along the waterline at low tide. They are perfect for families with young children and people with little or no cycling experience. The average daily distances are an easy paced 25 – 35km (15 – 20 miles).
Energetic
These tours are for people who have a reasonable level of fitness and have some experience of off-road riding. The terrain becomes a little more challenging with rolling hills and tougher trail surfaces to traverse, but without any very steep climbs or descents. The average daily distances are still a very manageable 35 – 50km (20 – 30 miles).
Adventurous
These tours are for the more experienced recreational cyclist who rides on a regular basis. The terrain becomes a lot more mountainous and includes more technical trail-riding sections. The pace is usually also a lot more challenging and the average daily distances begin to stretch out to a testing 40 – 65km (25 – 40 miles).
Insane
These tours should only be undertaken by very fit and experienced cyclists and those people looking for the ultimate off-road cycling challenge. The terrain includes some of the toughest and most technical routes in remote parts of Southern Africa. Climbing major mountain passes and navigating through wild uncharted bush trails over vast distances are the order of the day. The average daily distances increase dramatically to a challenging 65 – 100+ km (40 – 60+ miles).
