Tour De Knysna 3-Day Cycle Tour

Port Elizabeth to Knysna 3-Day Cycle Tour

Starting at Port Elizabeth’s picturesque beachfront on Wednesday morning, 30th June 2010, we will set off on a 3-Day cycle ride to Knysna, arriving at the Knysna Cycle Tour Expo early on Friday afternoon.

The first stage of this cycle tour heads out along the picturesque coastline around the bay with some stunning viewpoints as we near Maitlands River Mouth.  Then the road turns inland over a few testing climbs before turning into the Elephant Walk Country Village where we will have the opportunity to enjoy a much deserved lunchtime snack.

With renewed energy and enthusiasm we'll set off for our final destination of the first day's ride - Jeffreys Bay.  This famous holiday town, renowned for its top international surfing competitions, will be a welcome sight after covering 120km's on the first day of our tour, having weaved our way along the quiet undulating roads through the scenic Sunshine Coast countryside.

After a hearty breakfast we'll set off for another day in the saddle as we head out from Jeffreys Bay along the old R102 road to Storms River.  With perfect cycling conditions and a relatively flat ride after the first few rolling hills, this stage of the tour is ideal to relax and let our legs recover as we take in the awesome scenery.  This 90km cycle along the base of the mountains and through the magnificent Tsitsikamma Forest is topped off with lunch overlooking the Storms River Gorge.  Then we climb back onto the bikes for the final dash down to the overnight stop at the stunningly beautiful Storms River Mouth Resort, right on the beach in the Tsitsikamma National Park.

The next morning sees the group making a choice between cycling through the two stunningly beautiful mountain passes or taking the easier route over the bridges.  Depending on how weary our legs feel, we'll head out on the 90 - 100km final stage of the tour to our final destination - Knysna.  With stunning scenery and a wide shoulder of the road to ride along, the group can made good speed through to the picturesque holiday town of Plettenberg Bay and then cruise on down into Knysna.

After 3 days in the saddle we'll arrive in Knysna at the Pick 'n Pay Cycle Tour Expo where everyone can register for the weekend's racing, before heading out to our accommodation.  Then we're free to settle in and enjoy the atmosphere of the Knysna Oyster Festival.

This tour is open to all cyclists and cycling enthusiasts.  Provision will made for faster and slower riders so that you can fit into a group that suits your abilities and you can enjoy your ride.  There will be back-up vehicles to assist when your legs get tired and plenty of refreshments on hand throughout the tour.  So come along and join in the fun...!
