Road Tours

At Leisure Cycle Tours and Adventures we offer a selection of classic road cycling tours ranging from a relaxed weekend amble down the tarmac to an extraordinary epic long-distance road cycling adventure.

Our range of tours is designed to have something to suit every level of cycle tourist.  Whether you are a beginner or an expert, we have a tour for you.  Each tour is graded according to its level of difficulty, thereby allowing you to select the most suitable tour for yourself.

Whether you’re looking to push yourself to your limits over challenging mountain passes or just take a more leisurely meander along our rural back roads, taking time to stop and sample the fine wine and cuisine of the region, we’re sure to have a tour to suit you.

Our tours take us along good quality tarred and gravelled back-roads where there is minimal motor vehicle traffic. This allows you an opportunity to unwind and enjoy the breathtaking scenery, explore new parts of the region or to seek out a personal challenge on your two-wheeled steed in peaceful surroundings.

Our fully supported tours have experienced guides riding along with you to assist you and point out places of interest, while our back-up vehicles follow along to be of service should your bike require attention or to carry you and your bike should you feel like taking it even more leisurely.

If you prefer setting your own pace on a self-guided tour, we’ll provide you with all the route directions and maps to get you safely to your next destination.  We’ll have back-up vehicles available on-route who are just a phone call away should you require any assistance and we’ll transport all your luggage for you so you can soak up the magnificent scenery, explore the quaint curio shops and enjoy the taste of the local cuisine in the little towns you pass through as you leisurely pedal along our beautiful countryside.

We’re certain that you’ll find a road cycling tour to suit you.

Road Tours - Grading

For your convenience, all of our tours are graded on their level of difficulty.  To ensure you have a comfortable ride and an enjoyable experience, we provide a guideline of the level of fitness required, type of terrain encountered and the daily distances covered.

Easy
These are leisurely paced tours involving easy cycling over fairly flat terrain with only minor hills along the way.  They are perfect for families with young children and people with little or no cycling experience.  The average daily distances range from 25 – 40 km (15 – 25 miles).
Energetic
These tours are for people who have a reasonable level of fitness and ride a bicycle at least a few times a month.  The terrain is more challenging with rolling hills, but no major steep climbs. The average daily distances are a very manageable 35 – 50km (20 – 30 miles).
Adventurous
These tours are for the more experienced recreational cyclist who rides on a regular basis.  The terrain becomes a lot more mountainous and the pace is usually a lot more challenging.  The average daily distances begin to stretch out to a testing 40 – 80km (25 – 50 miles).
Insane
These tours should only be undertaken by experienced cyclists and those people applying to be institutionalised!  The terrain includes some of the toughest and most remote parts of Southern Africa.  Climbing major mountain passes and covering vast distances are the order of the day.  The average daily distances increase dramatically to a challenging 80 – 120+ km (50 – 70+ miles).
