Local Coffee & Muffin Ride – Winter Ride Times

This popular monthly fun-ride enjoyed some great cycling weather this month and saw a host of new and old faces joining us. With the imminent arrival of the cooler winter months and their chilly early mornings and the sun only putting in an appearance much later, we have made some changes to the ride times. To make our popular monthly Coffee & Muffin Ride more appealing during these “snuggle under the duvet” mornings, we adjusted the ride options and start times of our rides to suit the season.

The long 100km option from Kings Beach has fallen away until “spring” is once again in the air. The ride times of the medium 60km route from Builders Warehouse has changed to 07H00 and the shorter 30km route from the Walker Drive Shopping Centre has changed to 08H00. Be sure to join us for our next ride on Sunday, 1st June 2008 and bring along the whole family for a pleasant morning cycle ride to the Elephant Walk Restaurant in Colleen Glen, where you can enjoy a steaming cup of coffee and a delicious muffin for only R20-00. For more information visit our website at www.leisurecycletours.com or contact Shane on 074 114 4811.

Bike Bag – On Your Head
Cycle helmets are designed to work as shock absorbers for your head. In a fall the primary danger is not the cuts or grazes to the scalp, but the impact energy to your brain which can slosh about inside your skull. The helmet’s job is to soak up as much of this energy as it can. It does this by crushing and breaking. Read more about the in's and out's of cycling helmets in this insert from an informative article printed in the August 2006 edition of “Enjoy Your Bike” cycling magazine.

Biking Boo-Boo’s
A Tough Climb on a Tandem Jack and Jill have just climbed Le Alp de Huez, one of the steepest peaks in the Alps on their tandem. "Phew, that was a tough climb" said Jack, leaning over, breathing hard. "That climb was so hard and we were going so slow, I thought we were never going to make it." "Yeah, good thing I kept the brakes on," said Jill, "or we'd have slid all the way back down!"
